The Living Lab is an interactive participatory lab with a high level of collaboration, useful for co-creating solutions to open/complex challenges: in our case, this challenge is the rationale and shared design of the BBMRI APP, a key tool to digitalize consent to biobanking for research purposes and to facilitate interaction over time between participant and research biobank. The Living Lab - BBMRI APP is supported by the NRRP Strengthening BBMRI.it project and co-organized with the 8 biobanks selected to carry out this digitization activity, which makes research biobanking possible and determines the field of action of the biobank, as well as the informed consent to biobanking.

The main biobanking areas of the host research biobanks will provide the concrete context from which we will start to develop the APP for research biobanking with adults with a pathological condition. Each of the participants was invited to participate for the essential role they play in one or all phases of biobanking and of research based on data and samples, either as a participant or as a professional, clinician or researcher, or as an institutional decision-maker. To date, two Living Labs have already been conducted, an immersive one in biobanks and a virtual one. The first took place at the BioCor Biobank of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato: 16 participants took part including biobankers, patient representatives, clinical researchers, geneticists and research nurses. In the second meeting, the Living Lab was conducted remotely with the BBIRE Oncology Biobank of the IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute and with the Biological Bank of the IRCCS "L. Spallanzani". About 30 participants and the two scientific directors, prof. Ciliberto for BBIRE and dr. Girardi for INMI, who opened the activity, took part in the work of the virtual Living Lab.

As an alternative to the biobank visit, the presentation videos of the participating biobanks were shared in advance:
